The 7 Benefits of Using Micellar Water Every Single Morning

Micellar water is a gentle and non-irritating way to cleanse your skin. It's also quick and easy—perfect for those mornings when you're running late or feeling lazy. You don't have to spend time lathering up soap and rinsing it off with water; just pour some of the liquid onto a cotton pad and wipe your face. Micellar water is particularly helpful because it removes makeup in one step, so even if you go to bed with a full face of product on, you can still quickly cleanse your skin in the morning (and save yourself from those dreaded breakouts that sometimes come with going to sleep in your makeup).

1. It's a one-step cleanse.

Let's start with the basics: What is micellar water, you ask? It's a formula of purified water and micelles (tiny balls of cleansing oil molecules). Micelles bind to dirt, makeup, oil, and other types of impurities on the skin. And when you apply micellar water—either by saturating a cotton pad or simply splashing it onto your face—those little micelles get to work drawing out whatever dirt and grime has built up on your face throughout the day. Micellar waters are very gentle so they can be used as an everyday cleanser that won't irritate your skin or strip it of its natural oils—but they're powerful enough that they also remove every last trace of stubborn makeup.

To use micellar water, take a cotton pad and soak it with the liquid (about half a teaspoon should do), then gently swipe across your face until all makeup is removed. You don't have to rinse after using it either! If you have sensitive eyes or just want some extra reassurance that there's no stray mascara left in your lashes, follow up with another cotton pad doused in cool water. To remove eye makeup entirely and avoid any stinging sensation, hold the soaked cotton pad over your closed eye for about 20 seconds before wiping gently underneath your lash line.

2. Your skin will feel fresh and awake (and not tight, dry, red, or irritated).

While washing your face with tap water can leave your skin tight, dry, red, and irritated, micellar water is gentle and hydrating. In addition to helping you keep dryness at bay, micellar water just feels good on your skin in general—which is more than you can say for the sting of a splash of H2O first thing in the morning. The refreshing feeling after cleansing with micellar water will make your skin feel fresh and awake.

3. It's great for on-the-go morning and travel.

Micellar water is a great tool for busy people who want to be able to clean their faces before hitting the gym in the morning. It offers a quick way to freshen up at work or on a flight, which is always nice when you're feeling grimy.

The more I learn about micellar water, the more I realize its potential. It's not just something you use when it's time to take off your makeup; it can also be part of your daily skincare routine. Using micellar water two times every day, every morning and night, helps me keep my face as smooth as a baby's behind—and that's something I never thought I'd say!

4. It's good for all different types of skin.

The good news is that micellar water works on all skin types, so everyone can use it. Even those with the most sensitive skin can use it because it's gentle. It cleanses and soothes your skin without stripping it of its natural oils.It works well for oily, dry, and normal skin. And if you have sensitive skin, it even helps to calm and comfort your face.

5. You can save time in the mornings.

You can use micellar water to save time in the mornings. Everyone is pressed for time. We want to sleep in, but we can't because we have to get up and get ready for work or school. Instead of waking up 15 minutes earlier to wash your face, you can use micellar water when you wake up and it will remove your makeup and cleanse your skin at the same time. If you do have extra time in the morning, then by all means, go ahead and wash your face with a cleanser as well—but just incase you don't, micellar water is definitely a better option than skipping cleansing altogether by hitting the snooze button!

So what should you do instead of washing your face?

Use that extra five minutes to look up cute outfits on Pinterest or Instagram when picking out an outfit for the day, read a chapter in that book you've been trying to finish for months, meditate so that positive thoughts set your mood for the day, write down some creative ideas for stories or blog posts so that they never escape from memory, play with your pet—the possibilities are endless!

6. It's good skin prep before makeup.

Micellar water is a gentle cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils, which can be super helpful if you struggle with dry skin. It's also good for all skin types and won't leave you feeling tight or itchy after use. Best of all, micellar water leaves your face feeling refreshed, soft, and smooth—so don't worry about waking up with tight or uncomfortable skin after using it.

After cleansing with micellar water, even my oiliest areas feel more comfortable than they had before I cleaned them! I can definitely say that I'm much less likely to lug around blotting papers at work when I use this product because my greasy T-zone has been tamed into submission. The best part: My makeup stays put literally all day long (through the monsoon that is most days in Mumbai) without me having to reapply throughout the day.

7. It can be used to remove eye makeup left from the day/night before.

It's also helpful for when you're in a hurry. By just swiping a cotton pad over your face, you can efficiently cleanse and remove makeup in one go. Most micellar water is safe to use around the eye area, but avoid getting it too close to your peepers since it could sting. A lot of people with sensitive skin prefer micellar water to other cleansers because it's known for being gentle and soothing on irritated skin. Micellar water is quick, gentle, and refreshing.
